I’m incredibly honored to be the Culinary Ambassador for the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which will open on the National Mall in Washington, DC on September 24th. This week, the museum was opened up to the media to explore, and everyone had an opportunity to taste the food in the Sweet Home Café, a menu which was carefully designed by chefs and curators to showcase the strong connection between the African American community and food.

The museum itself is visually stunning and it really will take several visits to fully explore all the exhibits. It’s a space that is filled with both darkness and light, laughter and tears, despair and hope. As you look through the photos we took this week, you’ll see that construction workers and curators are still finishing up the final details on the exhibits — I can’t wait to see it fully finished on opening day and hope that you’ll come visit the next time you’re in Washington. Be sure to stop at the Sweet Home Café for some pepper pot, son-of-a-gun stew, barbecue, and sweet potato pie!
